From 10th till 13th of June the Road-Show information days took place in Balatonfüred. The workshop for municipal decision makers started on Thursday at Vaszary Villa in Balatonfüred at 9.30 am.
The speakers at the workshop were Norbert Merkel who spoke the opening words, Thomas Lewis who introduced the project (see slides here), Hannes Neupert who spoke about technical issues and infrastructure (see slides here), Christiane Edegger who brought examples with pedelecs from Austria (see slides here) and T. Bognar who represented the retailers perspective. Balint Gyorivanyi translated the speaks from English to Hungarian. Also representatives from the media attended the workshop.
There was big interest from the side of the municipality (represented by the vice mayor) and from the s
ide of the tourist bureau (represented by the hotel manager of hotel Ramada). For non-Hungarian it is difficult to understand the economic possibilities with regard to the purchase of pedelecs. The event has helped to let the project partners of Go Pedelec! get a better understanding here. The Balaton region is a touristic region. The following example from the slides of T. Lewis makes it clear why future activities from Go Pedelec! will follow this year:We stayed in the Balatonfüred Hotel „Annabella“.
They have 6 conventional bikes for rent.
One day of rental of one bike costs 3000 Hungarian Forint (HUF), this is about 11 Euros.
Business calculation:
100 days of bike rental x 3000 HUF = 300.000 HUF (about 1100 Euros)
For this amount you can get a pedelec!
As a consequence of the big interest in Balatonfüred another workshop with 40-50 participants is planned during the summer time in cooperation with the hotel manager and the vice mayor. During the four days about 650 people did a test ride on the test track.
